The League of Women Voters of Massachusetts hosts its annual Online Student Essay Contest. This year's theme: 'Democracy and Change: The Newly Elected President' for Massachusetts students in grades 4 - 12.

Everyone is invited to an awards event on Sunday afternoon, April 5, 2009, in Faneuil Hall, Boston to announce the winners and to award prizes to students. Winners will read their essays from the podium of historic Faneuil Hall. The names of those receiving Honorable Mention will receive certificates and recognition at the awards ceremony at Faneuil Hall. The Educational Grants will be awarded to the teachers.

Contest Dates
Contest deadline is midnight, March 6, 2009.
(All essays must be received by this date).

A list of winners and honorable mentions will be posted on www.lwvma.org.

The event is free and open to the public. All students, parents, family, friends, teachers, administrators, and others at the schools of student winners are invited to attend. We will be inviting special speakers, government officials, legislators, League members and others who contribute to the process of democracy in our state.
