The Guild of Boston Artists, located at 162 Newbury Street, Boston is pleased to announce a four-part series of Art Discovery classes for children.

Classes will be held in the gallery on Saturdays from 10:30 AM-12:00 PM, starting October 25.

The Guild of Boston Artists, which celebrates its centennial anniversary this November, hopes to help children see the art work in its gallery through the artist's eye.

Demonstrations and classes will be led by some of the Guild’s talented artists, who will share with children that art is joyful, fun, and super cool.

After each discussion, the children will have an opportunity to make their own paintings.

Classes and supplies are free of charge, a service the Guild of Boston Artists provides with the goal of inspiring the next generation of artists.

For more information or to register please call (617) 536-7660 or e-mail [email protected].

Registration is requested but not required.

Fall 2014 Art Discovery Classes:

How Does an Artist Begin?
October 25, 10:30 AM-12:00 PM

What does an artist think about before beginning a painting?

We will discuss paintings in the gallery and invite the children to imagine what might have been going through the artist's mind while he or she was designing the painting.

What Is So Important About Light & Dark?
November 1, 10:30 AM-12:00 PM

We will discuss the role light and shade plays in the mood and expressiveness of the paintings in the gallery.

What Is So Special About Color?

November 8, 10:30 AM-12:00 PM

We will examine the different ways that painters use color and how that influences the final outcome.

Why Does Painting Excite You?
November 15, 10:30 AM-12:00 PM

Drawing on the basics of design, light and shade, and color, we will ask the children to choose paintings that excite them in the gallery.
