The cognitive, psychological, physical, and social benefits of learning to ride horses at Sandy Bay Stables are many.
The physical benefits of horseback riding are numerous: the natural rhythm of the horse stimulates the rider, improving flexibility, balance, posture, muscle strength, gross and fine motor skills, and increased range of motion. The emotional benefits are such that the bond created between the rider and the horses helps the rider build trust, confidence, self esteem, and a feeling of independence. Mastery of a difficult task such as controlling a 1200 lb. animal enhances any child's self-esteem and confidence level as well as increasing their desire to take risks and responsibility. Children also practice self discipline while riding. Kids that learn to ride also obtain an increased level of empathy and sense of empowerment. They experience success in many ways in our supportive environment.
In addition the cognitive benefits are: improved judgment and critical thinking skills, increased vocabulary application and recall, improved attention and concentration, improved sequencing and planning skills among others.
