Honoring Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary, Dance Prism presents A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the Bard’s shimmering fantasy of fairies and foolish mortals.

Like the beloved play on which it is based, A Midsummer Night’s Dream intermingles the incandescent beauty of the fairy kingdom with the riotous confusion of four young lovers and the befuddlement of Bottom the weaver, famously crowned with the head of an ass by the mischievous Puck - a timeless comedy of fairies and mortals, magic and mistaken identity.

Dance Prism’s new production is co-choreographed by company principal Miranda Bailey and Artistic Director Mary Demaso.

Principals Caitlin Klinger and Matt Tucker will rule the fairy Kingdom as Titania and Oberon, with the impish assistance of Alex Roy as Puck, who will have the fun of transforming into an Ass veteran company principal Jon Towle as Bottom.

Michelle Michitson will portray the Queen of the Amazons, on whose wedding day the events transpire, and the four muddled lovers will be performed by Tianna Tarquinio, Katherine Roy, Kraig Theriault, and Christopher Croucher.

Following the performance, audience members are invited to join the cast at a reception where they may meet the characters and enjoy complimentary refreshments as well as surprises for young patrons.

According to the Director, it is an essential part of Dance Prism’s mission to present programs that offer audiences an immediate and personal connection to the arts, as well as the more imagination-driven joys of ballet’s on-stage illusion.

Dance Prism, New England’s Premier Touring Ballet Company, was founded in 1982 by Scott Ranagan and Mary Demaso.

It is a classically focused ensemble that includes in its repertoire both such narrative ballets as The Nutcracker and Cinderella, and original works including Variations on Make Way for Ducklings, inspired by Robert McCloskey’s beloved tale, and the revival last spring of Dance Prism’s most popular family oriented ballet, A Tea Party with Alice in Wonderland.

Among recent productions have been such major works as Giselle, Swan Lake, and the historically significant romantic ballet La Sylphide,
Dance Prism is a not for profit organization.

Dance Prism is composed of approximately 25 professional dancers and apprentices, supplemented for larger productions such as The Nutcracker by serious ballet students who audition annually for the company.

Dance Prism’s casts include dancers based throughout the northeast region and eastern seaboard.

The company also provides performances, lecture demonstrations, and workshops for a number of private and public schools and retirement communities throughout the region.

Dance Prism is a performance organization only.

Dance Prism offers special programs to meet the needs of Scouts of all ages as well as other community groups.
