Love It Every YearMy family makes a point to catch this hilarious event every year and I look forward to it for weeks. My daughter dresses as a pirate and it adds to the fun (and great photos). Set overlooking the (real) ocean on a cozy knoll, the atmosphere cannot be beat. A real pirate ship even sails by and a pirate walks the plank!
A roving troupe of very talented, costumed actors stay in character all day and interact with fairgoers and put on continuous shows. None of the characters are too menacing nor too slutty (like at Renaissance festivals) and are always funny, witty and cute. And always professional. (I could see any of this cast of pirates making a hit out of a television sitcom anyday.) There was 'human' checkers, excellent duels, puppet shows, trivia games, concerts, magic shows, costume contests, and an ongoing stage show where each pirate character had a role in the narrative that changes from year to year. Themes vary from pirate weddings to missing diamonds. There is also food, a bazzaar and kid's games for more $.
It was a great entertainment value, and we stayed all day as to not miss anything.
New England Pirate FaireWe took our two boys to this over the past weekend. It wasn't worth the cost for our family. There were some cute plays but also a fair amount of lewd skits as well. Even in some more kid friendly skits there were jokes meant to go over kids heads (they did) but were really not needed.
As adults we don't need to get our laughs from lewd jokes. Also it was smaller than expected and each booth was selling something, it advertises a market but I didn't expect the whole thing to be a market. Go with lots of cash as thats all they take and some of the stuff is pricey. Some good stuff but not enough for us to go again.
