Waldorf School Celebrates 18th Annual Holiday Fair
Dip candles, decorate felt gnome hats, and sample delicious baked goods and savories while getting a jump on holiday shopping…it’s all here at the much anticipated autumn craft and artisan event of the Upper Cape: The Waldorf School of Cape Cod’s 18th Annual Holiday Fair, scheduled for November 22, from 10 AM, to 4PM! Located on Cotuit Road in Bourne, the school’s Coady School Building will be transformed, to an old-fashioned holiday fair, complete with sights, sounds and scents of the season.
“As the school celebrates its 25th year of operation, the holiday spirit is alive and well at The Waldorf School of Cape Cod,” said Liz Lodge, school board member. “Not only is the holiday fair is our biggest fundraiser of the year, it is a time when the entire community - families, staff members and many alumni students - come together to create a magical experience like no other.”
The fair is FREE for children to attend, and a suggested $3 contribution for adults, who will find treasures and treats are abundant for people of all ages. Visitors will discover The Artisans’ Merchant Hall, filled with uniquely handcrafted items in keeping with the school’s focus on handworks and love of natural materials. Artisans have been carefully selected to reflect the school’s philosophy.
You will find intriguing pottery, jewelry, fiber arts, hand-sewn dolls, toys, soaps, books, locally made preserves and candies, hand blown glass and more, all artfully presented beneath the rustic wooden beams of the medieval style marketplace. This year special guests, artists and authors Salley Mavor and Dave Masch, will be there with their beautiful books and artwork. Come chat with them and watch them create.
You will find delightful craft activities in the classrooms. Try your hand at clay pot painting or decorate your own gingerbread person. Stop for a treat in the Tea Room, and enjoy the fine musicians from across the Cape who will play a toe-tapping array of tunes on their acoustic instruments throughout the day. Be sure not to miss one of the marionette performances of Spindlewood, and look for the charming Pocket Lady roaming the hallways with her neatly wrapped treasures. In addition, The Waldorf School’s own Kindercraft store, with many hand-made gifts for sale, will be open during the fair and throughout the year.
Over a thousand visitors from all over the Cape, Southeastern Massachusetts and from as far away as Rhode Island and New Hampshire are expected to attend to shop amid an atmosphere of warmth and good-spirited fun that’s hard to describe. Many have found that the experience of this unique holiday fair lives on throughout the season, and becomes a favorite holiday tradition for years to come.
For those interested in learning more about the school's curriculum, there will be a Student Gallery displaying samples of student work and an opportunity to speak with the school's Enrollment Director, Meredith Hunnibell.
Founded in the 1984, the Waldorf School of Cape Cod is a non-profit organization that serves families throughout the Upper Cape and beyond in its parent-child classes, preschool, kindergarten, and grades 1 through 8.
