The unique Jazz at Sunset outdoor concert series-- now in its 21st year-- is one of Central Massachusetts' most popular summer events, thanks to its casual atmosphere, multigenerational appeal, and dynamic range of nationally acclaimed performers and local legends. Jazz at Sunset has something for everyone - outdoor concert lovers, jazz fans, young families, retirees and couples sharing a romantic picnic all rave about the unique and relaxing experience of the Jazz at Sunset series.
Our six-show series of sizzling sounds in an extraordinary outdoor setting opens June 18 and runs through July 30 (no concert on the July 4 weekend).
June 17 - The Love Dogs
Get your tails a-waggin as Jazz at Sunset kicks off in style! This hard blowing Boston septet has been wowing audiences and critics alike for more than 15 years with a combination of great musicianship and pure fun. Combining jump blues, New Orleans R&B and early rock 'n' roll into a signature powerhouse sound, this is one concert not to be missed.
June 24 - Dan Gabel and the Abletones
Travel back in time with an 18-piece Big Band, led by trombonist Dan Gabel, recently returned from a world tour with The Glenn Miller Orchestra. Fronted by female vocals and sporting a vintage look and a repertoire of more than 2,000 arrangements, the Abletones are the real deal - a Big Band that looks and sounds just like the 1930s and 1940s.
July 8 - Bobby Sanabria & Quarteto Aché
Grammy-nominated percussionist, composer and arranger, Bobby Sanabria, and his Quarteto Aché are undisputed virtuosos of Afro-Cuban jazz. Racing between bop and bolero to Cuban timba, and spicing it all up with rhythms from Puerto Rico,Brazil and the Caribbean, these musicians are redefining their genre.
July 15 - The Worcester Jazz Orchestra
Hot jazz. Cool tunes. Sizzling performances. For more than 15 years, the Worcester Jazz Orchestra has amassed critical acclaim - and a local following - for their brand of Big Band sound. Featuring the music of your favorites: Stan Kenton, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Buddy Rich, Maynard Ferguson and more.
July 22 - Nathan and the Zydeco Cha Chas
Mardi Gras arrives in Central Massachusetts! No one does traditional Southern Louisiana Creole roots music like these accordion-driven Zydeco masters - that's why our audience keeps clamoring to have them back. Come dancing with fast and furious beats, lively percussion, electric guitars, R&B influences and a trademark Caribbean lilt!
July 29 - The Duke Robillard Band
It's a hot summer night for blues lovers with two-time Grammy nominee and Blues Music Awards veteran Duke Robillard and his band. One of the most respected guitarists on the planet, B.B. King calls Duke 'one of the great players' and the critics say his latest CD is 'a certified joy-bringer'. Get ready for some honking, squawking, sax and guitar-driven blues.
