The program includes songs like Yankee Doodle, Old Folks at Home (Swanee River), Alexander’s Ragtime Band, and Goodnight Irene.
Richard sings the songs, accompanying himself on guitar, banjo and baritone ukulele and asks questions such as: What pre-Revolutionary War song mocked the Yankee militia but was sung at the British defeat at Lexington and Concord?.
What was America’s favorite president’s favorite song, and why was it so unlikely?
How are God Bless America and This Land is your Land connected?
After the questions come the stories, and the songs, and audiences usually join in to sing along.
