After going to the instrument petting zoo at the Old Firehouse Trust on Dock Square, where children of all ages will be able to see their favorite instruments up close and learn how to handle and play them (which is sure to be a great cacophony of sound), head over to the Shalin Liu Performance Center for a free concert by the Back Bay Brass Quintet.

The BBBQ will play music spanning many centuries – from the 16th to the 21st – will be performed in a wide range of styles.

From Gabrieli to Bolter, Mozart to an American folk song, the many diverse sounds of the instruments of the brass family will be heard in a program sure to please the listener.

Formed in 2010, the Back Bay Brass Quintet is comprised of five graduate students from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Spanning diverse backgrounds and locations, the members of the Quintet combine their experiences and talents in performing a variety of repertoire, ranging from traditional brass quintet works to new compositions, jazz, and other popular music.
The Back Bay Brass Quintet was recently awarded a fellowship by the New England Conservatory of Music to develop partnerships in the greater Boston area to unite the arts with the community through a series of community performances.
