Hot Jazz Jumpers BIO
Hot Jazz Jumpers perform traditional jazz of the 1920s and 30s, the music of New Orleans, blues, tin pan alley, ragtime, old timey, swing, world music, originals and dance.
Band leader, Nick Russo (guitar/banjo) appears on ABC's Good Morning America, Sam Mendes film, 'Away We Go' and was a sideman with the late greats: Jimmy McGriff, Teddy Charles and Sonny Dallas.
Russo has recorded as a sideman on many albums including: Mona's Hot Four, Grand St Stompers, Michael Arenella's Dreamland Orchestra, Dandy Wellington, Garden Party, Raphael McGregor, Jesse Gelber, Adrian Cunningham, Stacy Sullivan, Anastasia Rene, Hot Sardines and others.
In 2013 Nick jammed with Sir Paul McCartney on harmonica at Gwyneth Paltrow's garden party and 2006 released Ro featuring Mark Turner, Pandit Samir Chatterjee, Ari Hoenig & other great musicians.
Betina Hershey (voice/guitar) appears as principle dancer in featured films: Disney's Enchanted and Mona Lisa Smile performed on national tours of Broadway shows such as West Side Story, Phantom of the Opera and Pump Boys & Dinettes.
Miles Griffith, jazz vocalist/composer who has performed with Paul Simon, Max Roach, Reggie Workman, T.S.
Monk, Barry Harris and others; He played the lead role in Wynton Marsalis' jazz oratorio 'Blood On The Fields,' which premiered at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall.
David Pleasant is a master percussionist who grew up amidst Gullah Geechee rhythms of the Georgia and South Carolina coast.
He has performed with Wynton Marsalis, Paul Simon, Cecil Taylor and many others.
David also performed on Nickelodeon, TED talks, ABC with Ted Koppel, Broadway, and around the world.
David Pleasant also choreographed for Urban Bush Women.
Hot Jazz Jumpers are also rotating members of Banjo Nickaru & His Western Scooches.
