“[Sévère is] destined for the most brilliant future, gifted with astounding technical mastery and astounding musicality,” according to ResMusica.
The young artist will perform Devienne, Sonata No.
I / Poulenc, Sonata / Berg, Four Pieces / Weber, Grand Duo Concertant.
Sévère is quickly gaining attention as a musician to watch.
He started playing the clarinet at age eight, making his first solo appearance at age 11 with the Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra for the 250th anniversary of Mozart’s birthday.
At age 12, the young musician won five international competitions including first prize and four special prizes at the Japan Clarinet Society competition in Tokyo.
At age 14, he obtained a master’s degree with high honors at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, and is the youngest French artist to be nominated as “Solo instrumental discovery” by Victoires de la Musique Classique.
More recently, the clarinetist has won a number of prizes, including: First Prize and eight special prizes at the competition of Young Concert Artists International Auditions in New York, Prize-winner of Safran Foundation, Prize-winner of Banque Populaire Foundation, artist-in-residence at Singer-Polignac Foundation, and his Brahms CD was awarded Diapason d’Or of the year.
He continues to perform with a number of international tours and chamber orchestras.
Paul Montag, who will accompany Sévère, has played the piano since age four.
He has studied with Christian Ivaldi and Chantal Debuchy at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris, where he continues to participate in Master Classes.
Montag performs with a number of internationally renowned conductors and solo artists.
Often a sell-out event, the Sunday Concert Series will take place on Sunday, October 23 at 1:30 p.m., in the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum’s Calderwood Hall, located at 25 Evans Way, Boston, Mass.
Tickets are required, which may be purchased in advance or at the door, and include Museum admission.
Admission is $27 for adults; $24 for seniors, $17 for students with valid IDs; and youth age 7 and under are not admitted.
