Children ages in 5-9 years old join the ladies of Marafanyi as they investigate indigenous instruments and learn rhythms, dances and songs from West Africa. At the New School of Music.

Connecting mind, body and sprit, students learn to express themselves through a powerful and lyrical vocabulary of traditional and purposeful rhythms that are hundreds of years old. Marafanyi programming promotes wellness, empowerment, creativity, and highlights cultural diversity, unity, tolerance and the community spirit while touching on core curriculum standards (Geography, Social Studies, Math, Science, Creative Arts, Language Arts & More!)

Lara Gonzalez & Yael Shacham, the ladies of Marafanyi, have a holistic approach to West African drum, dance and song that is fun, encouraging and accessible with a focus on joyful exploration.
