Spring is an exciting time for outdoor discovery. AThe Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary offers four days of hands-on, awesome activities to explore the natural world in spring. Locate and learn about bugs, search for salamanders, watch birds gather nesting materials, and much more. Participants will be divided into smaller groups by age.
Who Let the Bugs Out? Tuesday, April 17
Warm spring mornings send ladybugs, grasshoppers, spiders, and butterflies dancing around our fields. We'll bring along nets, bug boxes, and identification books to aid us in our bug safari.
Vernal Pool Visit: Wednesday, April 18
Today we'll hike to a real vernal pool and look for frogs, toads, and salamanders. Quietly, we'll tiptoe around the pool and look for breeding wood frogs and their egg masses. Participants will get to witness the amphibian life cycle before their own eyes.
Splash, Splosh: Thursday, April 19
Spring is the perfect time to visit a pond and search for underwater creatures. We'll pass nets though the water and place the plants and animals we catch into a basin for a closer peek. Dragonfly nymphs, water scorpions, giant water bugs, and snails are just a few of the amazing animals we will encounter.
Feathered Friends Day: Friday, April 20
Spring is a wonderful time to learn about birds because of their bright colors and beautiful songs, and, best of all, most trees don't have leaves yet so we can see them! We'll learn how to use binoculars and hike to the observation tower to look for and listen to birds of all shapes and sizes.

Excellent program, Tue 18 Mar 2008
My first-grader attended the February vacation program. It was excellent! Not only was the subject matter interesting, but the camp was handled very professionally -- nothing loosey-goosey about it. I've signed up for April and summer as a result. Lots of physical and mental activity.
