Support group primarily for parents, although it may be appropriate for other caregivers to attend. The group is based on the approach used at MGH Think:Kids, which is based on Collaborative Problem Solving. By using this method, participants will be introduced to and supported in using an effective way to reduce conflict with their children.

This approach is based on the philosophy that children intend to please us, but sometimes lagging skills and other issues make that difficult for them. This approach is especially useful for parents who have tried behavior management systems such as sticker charts, tokens, and time-outs, and found those methods ineffective or worse. You can learn more about the approach by visiting the Think:Kids website.

The group leader is a parent mentor who was trained by and receives supervision from Think:Kids, although the group is separate from that program. The group leader is the parent of a formerly challenging child who behaves beautifully, as the result of using this method. The leader is trained in child development and in law; she worked as a developmental specialist in early intervention and as a special education attorney.

If you have questions you may send the leader an email message, at rachaelelisabeth1@gmail.com.
