The National Park Service is waiving the normal entrance fee these two days as part of a national initiative announced June 2nd by Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar. Rangers will be offering tours tied to a Father’s Day theme and free keepsakes of the site will be

The National Park Service is waiving entrance fees at its 391 sites around the country on three weekends this summer: June 20-21, July 18-19, and August 15-16. The goals of these fee-free weekends include providing economical vacation options during these tough economic times, encouraging Americans to learn more about their country and history this summer, and promoting National Park sites in advance of this fall’s Ken Burns PBS documentary series “The National Parks: America’s Best Idea.”
John Fitzgerald Kennedy National Historic Site preserves the birthplace (1917) and boyhood home of the 35th president of the United States. The modest house was the first home shared by the president’s father and mother, Joseph P. and Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy. The modest house was the first home shared by the president’s father and mother, Joseph P. and Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy. John, the second of nine children, spent his formative years in Brookline as his family began its rise to national prominence. In 1967 Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy returned to 83 Beals Street to commemorate his life, restoring the birthplace to her recollection of its 1917 appearance.

Located near Brookline's Coolidge Corner, take Harvard Street north from Beacon Street, and turn right on Beals Street just past the Edward Devotion School and Stedman Street. The JFK birthplace is roughly a dozen houses down on the right with a lamp and flagpole in front. John Fitzgerald Kennedy National Historic Site is roughly a 12-15 minute walk from the MBTA Green Line 'C' Branch Coolidge Corner stop, and is also reachable by MBTA bus #66.
