More than 1,500 racers and thousands of spectators line the Charles River as the race winds through Dedham, Needham, Newton, Wellesley, and Waltham to the day-long free Finish Line Festival at Herter Park, Soldiers Field Road, Brighton. Races include the $5000 Professional Flatwater Canoe Marathon, 24-Mile Canoe Relay Race for teams of ten, and 19-, 9- and 6-Mile canoe & kayak races.
The Run of the Charles Canoe & Kayak Race benefits the Charles River Watershed Association which has been working to protect the health and beauty of the Charles River since 1965. Entry fees are $35 -$50 per paddler. Free Finish Line Festival features live music, games, refreshments, and exhibits.
