Mayor Thomas M. Menino has announced that the Mellon Charitable Giving Program is continuing its partnership with the City of Boston this summer to support the White Stadium Sports Center at Franklin Park through the generosity of the Arthur F. Blanchard Trust.

White Stadium Sports Center consists of six weeks of free programming teaching over 11,000 Boston youngsters ages 7 to 14 sports fundamentals at the stadium located in Franklin Park. The summer camp, which takes place from July 7 through August 15, helps participants enhance their skills in social interaction, physical conditioning, and psychological development.

This will be fourth year that the White Stadium Sports Center will also host a special program designed to educate young inactive and obese youngsters in ways to take better care of themselves.

Registration for the six-week camp program is open to all Boston residents ages 7 to 14. Applications are available at Boston Centers for Youth & Families at 1483 Tremont Street, Boston, available online at www.cityofboston.gov/BCYF, or by calling (617) 635-4920.

Program History
In 2007, the White Stadium Sports Center fitness program for inactive and obese girls and boys served 902 young Boston females and 197 male counterparts, which equates to a 40% increase in female participants (536 in 2005) and 200% increase in male participants since its inception in 2005. 2007 marked the second year that male participants joined in on the fitness program activities which originally targeted and served only females.
