According to SitterCity, over 94% of current users rate the service as 'excellent'. Parents are also guaranteed to find a sitter in any area they serve or you will receive a refund (some restrictions apply - contact SitterCity for details).
How does it work?:
Most sitters at SitterCity are college students, but some are graduates or professionals. Once you become a member, you can use our powerful, user-friendly search features to find sitters in your area. Search criteria include times free, languages spoken, distance from you, transportation preferences, and many more.
You can also post jobs and you can maintain an online sitter list for quick reference. Take a look at the online site tour to see how it all works. If you like, you can also see a partial list of the colleges they work with on their college list page or you can check to see if they have sitters in your area by entering your zip code on their search page.
How much does it cost?:
Sittercity is not only the easiest way to find the sitters you need, it is also the least expensive. Joining costs $39.99 for the first month and just $5 a month after that. Monthly fees are billed automatically to your credit card. Your account can be canceled at any time once you find the sitters you need.
Sittercity charges no additional fees when you use a sitter you found on the site. Rates vary according to region, but sitters choose their own rates and generally charge $10-15 an hour for a job. Sitters offer petsitting, housesitting, newborn care, elder care, and miscellaneous housework in addition to babysitting.
How do I screen sitters:
Part of the reason why Sittercity is so inexpensive is because it is just a venue for parents to connect with sitters. They do not do scheduling, background checks, or screening, but they make it easy for you to check the quality of your sitter.
Sitters provide lists of references and SitterCity has a user feedback system where other parents can tell you what kind of experiences they've had with a sitter. They recommend that you and the sitter interview each other on the phone and in person before a job.
