Celebrating Local Gardens, Growers and Foods. The Third Annual Urban-Ag fair will being held on Sunday, September 18, 2011. Situated on Mount Auburn Street and Winthrop Park, the site of the first marketplace in Newtowne (1630s), this event will showcase locally grown fruits and vegetables and the people who grow them.
Come sample delicious local fare, purchase locally grown foods, get tips from local experts on composting, community gardening, container gardening, raising chickens and bees and more! Cooking demonstrations by local chefs will be held throughout the day.
All events are free, open to the public and are family friendly.
Prizes will be awarded for the tastiest, the biggest, the most interesting, and in some cases the ugliest fruits, veggies, baked goods, honey, flowers, preserves, pickles and eggs! Please come to enjoy the day.
Submit your fruits, vegetables, flowers, honey, baked goods, preserves, pickles and beverages in our judged competition! Prizes will be awarded in the categories of tastiest, biggest, prettiest/most creative, most interesting/funny looking and student grower (under 17). In addition, prizes will be awarded for photographs in the categories of composition, best use of space in a community garden and best use of space at a residence.

2:00 P.M. – 2:30 P.M. Presentation of awards and Winner’s Circle
2:30 P.M. – 3:30 P.M. Viewing of winning entries
Club Passim, the venerable folk music venue located at 47 Palmer Street, will be on hand to serenade attendees with a stellar line up of acclaimed musicians.

These performances will be emceed by Scott Alarik (www.scottalarik.com), author of the folk music novel, Revival, a love story set in Cambridge. Alarik covered folk music for the Boston Globe for over 20 years. Pete Seeger calls him 'One of the best writers in America.' He is also a folk singer and songwriter who toured the national folk circuit and performed regularly on A Prairie Home Companion.
