“What will I Be?” family presentation at 11:30 am with Teacher Naturalist, Lisa Hutchings.
“Monarch Life Cycle Role Play” family presentation at 1:30 pm with Teacher Naturalist, Lisa Hutchings.

Narrated story with puppets with Victor Atkins will be at 10:30am and 12:30pm.

Connecting with nature starts with developing a good sense of place, and a great place to start is in the backyard of the Joppa Flats Education Center.

Drop in to take an outdoor inventory of every living thing from praying mantis to pearl crescents!

This full-day family event offers a variety of plants and animals from local habitats and encourages participants to learn more about biodiversity, conservation, and the joy of discovering nature in a safe and guided environment.

Ages 7 and up can use our digiscope to view wildflowers, insects and caterpillars on the big screen and enjoy our slideshow in the lobby of “Joppa Bugs” to help you learn more about the basics of insect identification.

Ages 6 and under can create fun, colorful crafts to take home, look for bugs and butterflies with our youth volunteers, and learn all about the differences between butterflies and moths.

Have a mystery bug?

Bring a photo or live specimen to our outdoor/indoor event and let our naturalists show you the steps to revealing its identity!
