Hot or cold, wet or dry, when summer comes, families looking for all-weather activities for all ages are invited to drop in at Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats Education Center for fun hands-on learning and to meet tide pool beach creatures, see backyard visitors like live caterpillars and tadpoles!
Thursdays through Sundays, 10:00 am–3:00 pm, beginning July 2 and continuing through August 16.
Program themes centered on local ecology and wildlife change every day, with group games, sing-a-longs and family friendly presentations now and then.
Activities include take-home art projects, examination of nature with hand-held microscopes and self-guided science, puzzles and games.
A $2.00 donation per child is suggested.
“Come visit us on the road to Plum Island before the beach, after the beach, or instead of the beach,” says Lisa Hutchings, School and Youth Education Coordinator at Joppa Flats.
“Our talented team of volunteers and young naturalists will introduce you to the beach creatures in our 110-gallon touch tank – what they are, where they came from, how they interact, and how to safely handle them.
We’ll have other animal visitors too, like caterpillars and tadpoles, and we’ll check in on them as they grow and change.
Our self-guided science tables are always interesting and interactive.
There is something for every age and interest for our visitors to enjoy!”
