Held on Boston Common, this event draws thousands of families each year who pack picnic dinners, bring blankets and lawn chairs, and enjoy live Shakespeare in a relaxed, welcoming setting. It’s one of the best free summer events in Greater Boston for families.

About the CommShakes 2025 Production: As You Like It

In 2025, the company staged As You Like It, one of Shakespeare’s most beloved romantic comedies.

Set between court life and the magical Forest of Arden, the story follows Rosalind, Orlando, and a cast of unforgettable characters as they explore themes of love, identity, friendship, and transformation. With humor, music, mistaken identities, and heartfelt moments, the play felt especially fitting for a summer evening on the Common.
