codzilla high-speed boat rides photoHold on to your hats. It's Codzilla!

Get ready for more thrills, more laughs and more speed than you ever imagined as you zip across the ocean at up to 40 miles per hour with the wind roaring and the music blaring through a state of the art sound system. (it's loud!)

Codzilla is Boston's first and only high-speed thrill boat ride featuring two turbo-charged diesel engines generating 2,800 horsepower and speeds of approximately 40 miles an hour.

The first 25-30 minutes of the ride is presented like a tour, with the guides describing landmarks that the boat passes by on the way out of the harbor. There is also a brief skit about pirates and the story of Codzilla, a giant cod.

You'll see great views of the waterfront and skyline on this tour. The boat leaves Long Wharf and then passes by New England Aquarium, the beautiful Boston Harbor Hotel at Rowe's Wharf, and Fort Independence at Castle Island.

**(Editor's Note: the 'high-speed' portion comes only after the vessel has left the harbor, as boats are not allowed to go too fast while inside the no-wake zones near the city).

After leaving the harbor, the remaining 10-15 minutes of the ride is spent out in open seas, with the boat performing different maneuvers at a high rate of speed, which is the main attraction of the ride. The excursion takes about 45 minutes in total.

**(Editor's Note: the 'high-speed' portion of the ride is only about 10-12 minutes, and the rest of the time is spent getting out of the no-wake zone and the boat stops for some narrative).

Reservations are not required, however, booking tickets in advance is a good idea if you know the specific day and time you want to attend.

Be mindful that Codzilla is designed to be a wet ride, and depending on where your seat is on the boat, you and your belongings could get very wet.

Bringing a change of clothes is a good idea if you have plans afterward. Free waterproof bags and $2.00 ponchos are available onboard.

TIPS↑ top

  • Advance-order tickets for all Codzilla rides are non-refundable. But they may be transferred to another day and time depending on availability. Transfers cannot be handled online or over the phone – only in person at the BHC Ticket Center.

  • The boat travels about 45 miles per hour at times and makes sudden maneuvers, so enough said. Each ride is random based on the choppiness of the sea due to winds, or presence of other ship's wakes, which can make the high-speed portion so thrilling.
