essex steam train riverboat photoA coal-fired locomotive pulls restored railroad cars past forests and streams, lovely vistas and nostalgic towns, farms and millponds, and tidal wetlands. Bird lovers should bring binoculars as blue heron, Greenland geese, and egrets abound.

Stay on the train for the return leg of your 12-mile round trip journey, or board the river boat Becky Thatcher for a relaxing and informative ride up the beautiful Connecticut River. Float by man-made wonders such as Goodspeed Opera House and Gillette Castle, and keep your eyes open for a glimpse of a glorious bald eagle.
