On October 22 and 23, more than 90 artists will welcome the public into their studios throughout Roslindale.

Now in its 12th year, Roslindale Open Studios (ROS) is a free, exciting, family-friendly community event that features fine art and crafts available to view and purchase, such as painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, woodworking, textiles, jewelry, and mixed-media.

Artists will showcase their work in 30 locations, including group sites, businesses, and home studios.

Talented artists participate in ROS year after year, such as the Ulman family at 36 Pinedale Road.

“Michael and I are sculptors, Judy is a photographer, and Jonathan is a musician,” said Martin Ulman.

“When Open Studios in Roslindale first began years ago, we all saw this event as an opportunity to showcase our varied work for a larger audience in the studio.

The event has only gotten better over the years mostly because of the major efforts of the committee.

I cannot say enough about how they have transformed these two days into a must go-to seasonal open studio event.”

In addition to many artists showing their work in home-based studios, ROS hosts three group locations with 10-20 artists exhibiting in each:

• Boston School of Modern Languages, 814 South Street
• Roslindale Congregational Church, 25 Cummins Highway
• Roslindale House, 120 Poplar Street

Photographer Erik Gehring will exhibit his landscape photography at Roslindale Congregational Church.

'I have participated in Roslindale Open Studios since the first edition in 2005,” Gehring said.

“I have been back every year because it is such a wonderful weekend of art and events.'
Another Roslindale Open Studios veteran exhibitor is painter Rebecca M.

Fullerton, who will exhibit at the Boston School of Modern Languages.

'As an artist living and working in Roslindale, I have a special love for our Open Studios because of its hometown feel,” said Fullerton.

“All of my neighbors come out to celebrate the creative spirit of our part of the city, and folks come from far afield to discover what a fun and vibrant neighborhood we are.”

Artists also participate in ROS to support organizations that are important to them.

Dawn Kramer and Stephen Buck at 143 Cummins Highway will donate profits from the sale of their images to the local food pantry.

Roslindale Open Studios is different from other similar events around Boston because exhibiting artists are in close proximity to each other.

This makes it easy for visitors to walk from one studio to the next.

In addition to the art on display, visitors can experience the popular Roslindale Village Main Street Farmers’ Market (Saturday only) and other activities:

• See a preview of home studio artists’ work at the Home Studio Artists Gallery at Roslindale House: Saturday and Sunday, 11AM-5PM
• Make free arts and crafts with Kids Art Express at Boston School of Modern Languages:: Saturday 11AM – 5PM, Sunday noon-3PM
• Play Home Studio Bingo to win prizes: Saturday and Sunday, 11AM-5PM
• Visit the photo booth and bake sale at the Boston School of Modern Languages: Saturday 1-4PM and Sunday noon-3PM
• Listen to funk, rock and R&B by the Tom Appleman Band at Roslindale Congregational Church: Saturday 1PM-3PM
• Enjoy the Afro-Latin-Caribbean rhythms of Trio Ten Tumbao at Roslindale Congregational Church: Sunday 1PM-3PM

Roslindale Open Studios is a celebration of Roslindale’s rich and diverse arts community.

All are welcome to enjoy this unique annual experience.
