Join Wee The People for a kid-powered workshop celebrating Black identity, Black experience, and unapologetic Black JOY at the Boston Athenaeum.Kids will explore the life and work of Jean-Michel Basquiat, the world-famous artist whose paintings crowned Black American heroes as kings — musicians, athletes, writers, and revolutionaries.
Kids will then dive into their own art-making with Identity Crowns, a collage activity for all ages designed to elevate our culture, heritage, and hopes for change in the world.
About Wee The People
Wee The People (WTP) is a Boston-based social justice project for children ages 4 to 12. Launched in 2015, WTP organizes interactive workshops and events that explore activism, protest, equity, and social action through the visual and performing arts.
Wee The People is grounded in the belief that if kids can understand fairness, they can understand justice.
WTP’s curriculum features originally designed, interactive games that tap into kids’ innate love of play to foster learning.
WTP programming also includes large-scale events incorporating sign-making, street marches, and teach-ins using children’s books aligned with core values of empathy, equity, racial justice, and social justice.
In addition, WTP organizes seminars focused on practices and strategies for race-conscious parenting.
