The Second Saturday of each month, the Cape Ann Museum is free for all day (10am-5pm) for Cape Ann Residents.

Visitors of all ages are invited to head down to the CAM Studio during their visit to participate in a new art project.

On Saturday from 10am-3pm, create your own sugar-cube sculpture in the CAM Studio inspired by Cape Ann’s granite industry.

From the 1830’s to the 1930’s, the granite industry was central to Cape Ann.

Quarry workers made granite paving stones that were shipped across the Eastern Seaboard from Boston to Havana, Cuba.

In addition to their economic impact, the quarries of Cape Ann have provided inspiration to artists, scholars, and authors for generations.

Take a look at Castagnacci: Notes from a Quarry and then make your own mock granite sculpture out of paving stone-sized sugar cubes.
