The Magic of Cyanotypes Dive into the magical blue hued world of Cyanotypes!
Explore this nearly 200 year old alternative photography process and the many creative paths it can lead.
Cyanotypes were first discovered in 1842 by Sir John Herschel and were used as a means of reproducing documents and notes.
Later, scientist Anna Atkins employed the process to catalog the different flora she was studying, eventually publishing her findings in the first photographically illustrated book.
Since those early days, artists and scientists alike have experimented with the process, pushing the boundaries and incorporating the method into other artistic practices.
Whether a novice or expert, come and try your hand in this simple yet elegant process.
Students will learn how to create the cyanotype solution, apply it to an array of materials, gather objects, create digital negatives, and produce perfect exposures.
As the course progresses, we will use this foundational knowledge to explore the numerous creative avenues that cyanotypes may lead an artist, experimenting with different materials and creative approaches.
Cellphones required.
