Offered in conjunction with the Museum’s special exhibition: 
Design/Build: The Drawings of Phillips & Holloran, Architects. This program is suitable for ages 6 to 10.



August 9 – 12: Design Challenge!

Tuesday, August 9: The Architecture of Cape Ann Architects have a language of their own.

Learn some architectural terms and types of buildings, then test your skills by doing a roof scavenger hunt and making a portrait painting of a historic building.

Wednesday, August 10: Design and Build – What Does it Take?
Phillips & Holloran, Architects (1890s through 1950s) designed and built houses, schools, hotels, artist studios and commercial structures throughout Cape Ann.

Learn about the planning that goes into creating the buildings that surround us, then use architect’s traditional tools to draw plans of your own home or favorite building.



Thursday, August 11: Putting Your Ideas on Paper Continue working on the plan for your building of choice using various media.

Friday, August 12: Build Your Dream House!
Using cardboard and other materials create a 3d model of your building.

Unless otherwise indicated, children should be dropped off at the Museum at 9:00 a.m. and picked up at 12:00 p.m.

The Museum is located in the heart of downtown Gloucester, one block north from Main Street and one short block east of City Hall and the Sawyer Free Library. Metered parking is available in the public lot across from the Museum.

Gloucester is also easily accessible by public transportation on the MBTA commuter rail, which connects Cape Ann directly with the greater Boston area and beyond. From Boston's North Station, take the Newburyport/Rockport line to the Gloucester stop; the Museum is a short walk (0.4 miles) from the train station.
