Newton Women Artists in the Spotlight - An eclectic evening celebrating Women’s History Month

Newton Cultural Center at City Hall, March 25th, 5 PM.

A Renaissance comedy play co-written and performed by Chiara Durazzini, a short film from Bosnia-Herzegovina directed by Sanja Zdjelar, and Israeli artisanal pastries from Galit’s Treats!

We’ll laugh, cry, and break some bread (and pastries) together!

Isabella Unmasked - The Legacy of an Italian Renaissance Woman.

One actress, ten characters.

One musician, ten instruments.

A comedic play and tribute to the life and legacy of a true Renaissance woman, Isabella Andreini, a poet, a mother, and one of the first female theatre professionals — she and her plays were a triumph at the De’ Medici court in Florence in the 1500s.

Co-written and performed by Chiara Durazzini, a playwright, teacher and master performer of Commedia Dell’Arte, the world’s first professional theatre originating in Italy.

Musical accompaniment by Dan Meyers.

Presented by Pazzi Lazzi.

Regret - an award-winning short film directed by Sanja Zdjelar.

War separated lovers from Bosnia Herzegovina meet again years later - she a hardened war correspondent, he a seemingly comfortable intellectual - when a fictional account of their story leads both to discover the true secrets and regrets that still bind them together.

Starring Mara Radulović and Timothy John Smith.

Galit’s Treats - To top it all off, Jewish and Israeli pastries from the town’s best pastry chef!

Galit loves teaching children and has been an educator for more than 25 years.

She recently decided to explore other passions and founded this bakery and family business in the heart of Newton Center.

Free Admission and Free Refreshments!

Everyone is welcome (we recommend children no younger than 6 years).

The program is supported in part by a grant from the Newton Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council.
