All programs included with admission

DROP-IN ART MAKING - Expand Our Neural Network
10am - 4pm | Atrium

Neurons are cells that carry messages back and forth in your body, helping your brain respond to the world around you. Discover how these neurons work by building your own model with chenille stems, then help us expand our collaborative neural network sculpture in the Atrium.

Optical Illusions
10am - 4pm | Studio 2, Create Space

Can you believe your eyes? Design and draw optical illusions and discover how the brain can sometimes get confused about what the eye is seeing.

Communicate Like a Neuron
11 am–3 pm | Studio 1, Create Space

How do neurons send messages around your body? Join neuroscientist Darcy Moore and get interactive with neurotransmitters. Create your own story and learn how your nervous system responds to events with different chemical communicators.

DEMONSTRATION - Meet a Museum Neuroscientist
Noon–1 pm | Atrium

Meet Dr. Tedi Asher, PEM’s own neuroscientist, and learn about her work here at the museum. Explore the biometric tools she uses to research how visitors interact with art in the museum. Want a deeper dive? Sign up for one of Tedi’s afternoon gallery experiences!

GALLERY EXPERIENCE - Be a Museum Neuroscientist
1–2 pm, 2–3 pm and 3–4 pm | Meet in the Atrium
**Space very limited. Advance registration required at [email protected]

Join Dr. Tedi Asher’s team and be a museum neuroscientist for a day. Each hour, one young neuroscientist (recommended for ages 8 and up) and one volunteer research subject (a parent or caregiver) explore the Japanomania! Japanese Art Goes Global gallery with biometric sensing equipment.

DROP-IN WORKSHOP - Poetry in Rhythm
1–2 pm | East India Marine Hall

Did you know that scientists have linked music and rhythm to your brain’s ability to learn a language? Try your hand at playing a djembe drum and experiment with different rhythm patterns in both words and music. Then write your own haiku and put it to a beat!

FILM - Inside Out
2–4 pm | Morse Auditorium
Open captioned

Emotions run wild in the mind of a young girl who is uprooted from her peaceful life in the Midwest and forced to move to San Francisco. Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness each have their own ideas about how she should handle her new surroundings (2015, PG, 102 minutes).

Brainwaves April school vacation week programs take place on Tuesday April 16, Wednesday April 17 and Thursday April 18, 2019.
