Sophia Palaiologina (1449-1503) was a Byzantine princess who grew up in the papal court and married Tsar Ivan III of Moscow.

She solidified the link between Byzantium and Russia through her bloodlines, but also played a key role in reforming Moscow’s visual language and standing as a cosmopolitan capital through her rich collection of objects, erudition and interpersonal connections.

Join Lana Sloutsky for a lecture on Sophia’s fascinating life and her many contributions to Russian culture.
