This event is free and open to the public and takes place on Tuesday, August 18, from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at the Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams’ Boston Signature Store, located on 142 Berkeley Street in Boston, MA.
All proceeds from the book sales and 10% of any merchandise sales during the evening will benefit ROOM TO GROW, a nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of babies born into poverty throughout their critical first three years of development.
An award-winning photojournalist, Brett is well-known for his career at The Boston Globe, where he marked his 50th anniversary on June 1, 2014.
He started his news career hawking The Globe on the street corners of his native Dorchester, Massachusetts.
He then worked there as an 18-year-old part-time photographer, learning the art and the business of news at the same time.
'Boston, Irish,' a collection of more than 260 black-and-white photographs of the people and the city in which Brett lives, turns the lens on his own community: the city’s Irish-Americans.
Through portraits and stories, the book covers every aspect of the region’s Irish-American community.
It also explores the full breadth of the Irish immigrant experience, representing those from the Republic and Northern Ireland and both Roman Catholics and Protestants alike.
