Honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life and work by joining with others to serve those in need in our community and to learn how you can help create an equitable community that brings us closer to racial justice and equality.

The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the inequality and injustice in our society. But we can still lend our helping hands. And we can work together to make this a day—and even a week—of giving and learning.

Join together virtually for hands-on service on MLK Day and a Week of Racial and Social Justice Conversations focused on Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr.’s work, legacy and continuing power to challenge and inspire us.

When you register you will be offered the choice to sign up for specific events and activities. You will receive an email with all your sign ups, and you will receive a zoom link or more information shortly before each event starts.

=========Past Year's Information - Pre-Covid-19========

On MLK’s birthday, 1000s of volunteers come together in for an afternoon of service projects at Central Sq. locations. This event is now one of the largest community service events in New England.

In 2020, in celebration of our ten-year anniversary, the Day of Service expanded to include a variety of workshops, performances and opportunities for community activism. And in just three short hours, volunteers of all ages and backgrounds participated in service projects ranging from making Valentines to sorting food for city food pantries.

The Day of Service is a unique opportunity for neighbors to work side by side to accomplish something for those in need. You could be sharing markers and making valentines with another family or sorting winter clothing with a state representative.

Everyone learns a little more about our city, makes new friends, and does something incredibly valuable for their community on this day.

The COVID-19 pandemic has thrown into relief the inequality and injustice in our society. It has increased the need for support and the demand on all our human service agencies.

And it now prohibits the kind of in-person gathering that has been the hallmark of our traditional Day of Service in Cambridge.

We will adapt. When the need is this great, we will find a way to reach out to our neighbors.

Sometime in December, we will announce plans for this year’s Cambridge MLK Day of Service. And we will need your many (washed!) hands more than ever.

Sign up below and we’ll send you an email when we finalize plans for this year’s Week of Service. You’ll be able to chose from a wide variety of activities, Spaces will be limited so be sure to sign up today.. Thank you!

Stay safe!
