For more than two centuries, mariners have relied on beacons from Chatham to safely navigate the treacherous waters around the 'elbow' of Cape Cod.

Ground tours will be available beginning June 18, 2022 during Historic Chatham Weekend.

Located on the grounds of Coast Guard Station Chatham, Chatham Light has a long and rich history and is available to tour during select months. Due to maintenance issues, the lighthouse itself is closed, but tours are conducted on the grounds.

Flotilla members will conduct the tours from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday of Historic Chatham Weekend (June 18-19) and at that same time every Wednesday in July and August.

Tours will also be held on September 6 and 13 and October 5 and 19 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Chatham Light, as you see it today, is one of two lighthouse towers that stood here in the mid-1800s. In 1923, the second tower was dismantled and transported up the coast to Eastham, where it became 'Nauset Lighthouse'

Chatham Lighthouse is perhaps the most often-photographed of all Cape Cod lighthouses, and one of the most popular for visitors thanks to its beautiful setting overlooking Lighthouse Beach, one of the most spectacular beaches in Chatham.

GENERAL RULES for when Lghthouse Tours Resume:

TOURS ARE SUBJECT TO CANCELLATION DUE TO RAIN
CHILDREN LESS THAN 45” TALL ARE NOT ALLOWED ABOVE BASE
PROPER FOOTWEAR REQUIRED TO CLIMB THE METAL STAIRS AND LADDER
APPROPRIATE CLOTHING IS RECOMMENDED FOR CLIMBING A LADDER
RESERVATIONS NOT REQUIRED AND NO FEE TO TOUR THE LIGHTHOUSE

Climbing the lighthouse requires significant physical exertion on 44 steps followed by 8 steps on a ladder. Anyone not wishing to climb is welcome to visit the base of the lighthouse for a brief history.

Parking near Chatham Lighthouse is extremely limited and often impossible to find. It's best to park in town and walk, bike or take the trolley (seasonal) to the light house.
