The Ballet
Shakespeare’s passionate tale of lovers trapped in the conflicts of a divided society has enthralled audiences for more than four centuries.

Issues in the play still resonate in our contemporary world.

This new Dance Prism production is choreographed by Miranda Bailey, former soloist and current Ballet Mistress of Columbia City Ballet, working together with Dance Prism Artistic Director Mary Demaso.

Transposing the narrative of Romeo & Juliet to ballet is very natural according to Demaso, as the lyricism of the young lovers’ poetry so readily inspires movement.

The scenario also allows the rapture of the lovers, danced by Bailey and Matt Tucker, to be complemented by exuberant market scenes reflecting the multiple layers of Verona’s society, as well as the heart-stopping swordplay (set by dancer and stage combat specialist Terry Blogg) that swiftly ends in pointless death.

Following all performances, audience members are invited to join the cast at a reception where they may meet the principal dancers.

Dance Prism
Dance Prism, New England’s Premier Touring Ballet Company, was founded in 1982 by Scott Ranagan and Mary Demaso.

It is a classically focused professional ballet company.

It includes in its repertoire both such narrative ballets as The Nutcracker and Cinderella, and original works including Variations on Make Way for Ducklings, inspired by Robert McCloskey’s beloved tale, and Dance Prism’s most popular family oriented ballet, A Tea Party with Alice in Wonderland.

Recent productions have included such major works as Giselle, Swan Lake, La Sylphide, Sleeping Beauty and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Dance Prism is composed of approximately 25 professional dancers and apprentices, supplemented for larger productions such as The Nutcracker by serious ballet students who audition annually for the company.

Dance Prism’s casts include dancers based throughout the northeast region and eastern seaboard.

Special Programs for Scouts and other groups
Dance Prism offers special programs to meet the needs of Scouts of all ages as well as other community groups.

Programs can be arranged for a pre-show informational talk tailored for Scouts, the opportunity to meet the dancers, and backstage tours for appropriate age levels.

A Nutcracker Special Program can include a complementary Dance Prism Nutcracker patch for attendance.

A generous discount is available to groups.

Lecture Demonstrations and Workshops When not involved in the fully mounted theatre performances, Dance Prism Company members tour New England offering Lecture/Demonstrations and Dance-related Workshops to private and public schools, libraries and retirement communities.

Contact Dance Prism to learn more about scheduling a Lecture-Demo at your facility.

Dance Prism is a performance organization only.
Dance Prism is a not for profit organization.
