bookMARKED: A Mail Art Exhibit
In February 2020, the Sudbury Art Association and A Lifely Read put out a call for mail art for an installation.
The project sought mail/postal art for the following:
Call for mail art representing a book that has impacted you!
We’ve all read books – some we’ve loved and some, well, we haven’t.
Whether you read it because a teacher assigned it or read it simply for pleasure or curiosity, what’s a book that has made an impression in your life?
“Mail art” or “postal art” is an artistic movement centered on sending small-scale works through the postal service.
Anyone – from children to adults – was encouraged to participate; no “artistic” experience necessary.
Since then, approximately 75 entries have been received, many from outside of the United States.
While many are cataloged on Instagram (instagram.com/bookmarked01776), the entire collection can be viewed in front of the Sara Sherman NOW Lab, on Goodnow’s second floor.
Patrons of all ages are invited to come view this interactive exhibit as well as leave a note in the guest book.
The Sudbury Art Association was established in 2010 and its mission is to promote and cultivate the practice and appreciation of all forms of visual arts in our community.
A Lifely Read is the project of writer, editor, and communications consultant Amy Wilson Sheldon.
Her mission is to connect words and people via her blog and social media accounts devoted to books and reading culture, as well as live events.
