Mayor Thomas P. Koch and the City of Quincy are proud to kick-off Quincy’s year-long celebration of the City’s 400th Anniversary with an immersive exhibit experience about the community’s 300th anniversary in Quincy’s Old Town Hall Museum located at 1305 Hancock St.

Over 50 large-scale historic images will take visitors back to the seven days of the “Quincy Tercentenary” celebrations in 1925, and to the lives and landscapes of Quincy during prohibition and the rise of the automobile, radio and silent films.

In addition, the exhibit includes the names of many of the community members who participated in the celebrations.

“From June 7th-13, 1925, many of the 60,000 residents of this fast-growing gateway community known for granite quarries and shipbuilding came together to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the first European settlement in the City they knew as Quincy,” shared Mayor Koch.

“As we look forward to the upcoming commemorative year, it is with appreciation that we look back on the achievements of our proud community 100 years ago.”

The celebration in 1925 included an epic 3-hour community pageant with 1,200 volunteer actors and a chorus of 500, a three-mile-long parade that drew 140,000 spectators to watch 182 floats and over 10,000 participants, including 13 Civil War Veterans and Argentinian sailors.

The museum exhibit will be open to the public Thursdays & Fridays from 2:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from noon - 5 p.m. beginning Thursday, January 9th.

The exhibit is free to the public.
