“There’s something for everyone,” says BBP co-organizer, Jim Cadenhead.
“It’s an excellent chance to get out there and experience the best of what our community has to offer.” Cadenhead was inspired to launch the Bikeway Block Party by helping to organize CicLAvia, a miles long, open street event in Los Angeles, with community stops for everyone.
“We’re a natural partner with the Friends of the Lexington Bikeways for this event, having set up art and entertainment for the Bikeway’s 25th anniversary and several years of art and performances for ArtsOffroad,” said Cristina Burwell, Executive Director at the Munroe Center for the Arts.
“I’m excited to see the community turn out for the musicians and artists, and even be able to create some art of their own!”
Peggy Enders, President of the Friends of Lexington Bikeways agrees with Cristina, saying “non-profits and volunteer groups can do wonderful things when we partner with each other; using the parks along the bike path to host this community arts and culture festival is the wonderful result of such an alliance.”
The Bikeway Block Party is co-hosted by the Friends of Lexington Bikeways and the Munroe Center for the Arts, with assistance from the Town of Lexington and the Arlington and Bedford Bicycle Advisory Committees.
The Bikeway Block Party Committee has received generous support from the Mass Cultural Council and the Lexington Trustees of the Public Trusts, along with the Friends of Lexington Bikeways and several groups and individuals throughout the local Bikeway communities.
