On Friday, May 20, at Boston’s John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, advocates for disadvantaged youth will be honored at Embracing the Legacy, the premier annual gala of Robert F. Kennedy Children’s Action Corps that raises funds to support its programs.

The agency, which is celebrating 47 years of service, is a national leader in developing and implementing model, successful child welfare, social service and juvenile justice programs.

In the spirit of the late Senator Robert F. Kennedy’s belief that individuals can make a difference in the world, the agency will present the Embracing the Legacy Award to advocates whose extraordinary actions reflect his social values and hopes.

During the event, Congressman Joseph P. Kennedy III and Matt Kennedy, RFK Children’s Action Corps’ board members, will reflect on their late grandfather’s legacy and the lasting contributions he made toward protecting society’s most vulnerable children and families.

Embracing the Legacy event chairs include Congressman Kennedy, John Boyle III, of Wayland, executive managing director at Cushman & Wakefield, and James Geraghty, of Westford, financial advisor at Morgan Stanley.

Boyle and Geraghty are also board members.

The event will include a cocktail reception, seated dinner and program, including the presentation of the Embracing the Legacy Award to the following honorees:

Dropkick Murphys, Ken Casey, the band’s frontman accepting; Joseph (Joe) Corcoran, chairman and founder of the Corcoran Jennison Companies; Francine Sherman, clinical associate professor at Boston College Law School and founder of the school’s Juvenile Rights Advocacy Program; and Thaddeus Miles, director of Community Services for MassHousing.

Susan Wornick, former anchor of WCVB-TV’s midday newscast who has been a longtime supporter, volunteer and member of RFK Children’s Action Corps’ advisory council, will emcee the 400-person event.

Robert F. Kennedy Children’s Action Corps’ annual Embracing the Legacy Award celebrates the legacy of Robert F. Kennedy and the work of the organization founded to carry out his principles of social justice for the poor and disadvantaged.

Through the event, RFK Children’s Action Corps raises money to support at-risk children, families, and communities throughout Massachusetts and the country, giving them a second chance for a better life.

The event will be held on Friday, May 20 at 5:30 p.m. at the JFK Presidential Library and Museum, Columbia Point, Boston.
