On Thursday, April 11, Old North Illuminated, which operates Old North Church & Historic Site in Boston’s North End, will re-enact the famous signal that lit the way for the American Revolution.

“One if by land, and two if by sea.” On Thursday, April 11, Old North Illuminated in Boston’s North End will re-enact the famous signal that lit the way for the American Revolution.

The celebration recognizes the historical events of April 18, 1775, when allies of Paul Revere hung two lanterns from Old North Church’s steeple as a warning to their fellow Patriots that British troops were on the move.

After passing critical information to the signal holders, Paul Revere began his iconic midnight journey to Lexington and Concord.

The courageous actions of Revere and the lantern bearers are an inspirational reminder of the power of active citizenship to create a more perfect union that reflects the promise of liberty and justice for all.

This year’s event will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Old North Church & Historic Site, located at 193 Salem Street in Boston.

The celebration will feature festive music followed by remarks from the 2024 Third Lantern Award honoree Commander Billie J. Farrell, the 77th Commander and first female leader of the USS Constitution, a spirited performance of the poem 'Paul Revere's Ride,' and a lantern-lighting reenactment with Paul Revere on horseback.

Refreshments and an opportunity to explore Old North’s sanctuary and newly restored crypt will follow.

Proceeds will support Old North Illuminated’s virtual and on-site programs, which aim to inspire children and adults alike to consider the ways in which they can build a more just and equitable world.

Individual tickets range from $60 to $200 and must be purchased in advance.
