On October 16 & 17, 2010 The Millis Historical Commission and the Lexington Minutemen will be pleased to host the first Revolutionary War Reenactment at historic Oak Grove Farm in Millis. Co-sponsors of this event are The 2nd Massachusetts Regiment & His Majesty’s 10th Regiment of Foot.

The Millis Historical Commission has previously sponsored nine Civil War Reenactments at Oak Grove Farm. The event begins on Saturday morning October 16th when the camps open to the public at 9:00 a.m.

Step back in time as the American Revolutionary War comes to life amidst the blasts of musketry, the roar of the cannons and the smell of campfires as soldiers recreate the bivouac and clash of the American and British Armies. This event will encompass a 1778 “what-if scenario” of an action between American troops advancing to support the ongoing Rhode Island campaign and British troops foraging northward into Millis, Massachusetts at Richardson’s Tavern.

Reenactments bring history to life for all ages and provide opportunities for the community to come together and enjoy a memorable weekend of local Revolutionary War History. The event schedule will include many 18th Century activities and a recreated battle scenario on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The general public is welcome to talk to the American or British soldiers and their families.

Our intention is to demonstrate the historical significance of Millis’ Revolutionary War history. Lafayette visited this area in the 1820’s on his final trip through America. It is also alleged that Washington came through Millis on his way to Cambridge with his troops. He is believed to have spent a night at Richardson’s Tavern.
