Leadership conference sponsored by the New England Center for Homeless Veterans (NECHV), is a discussion of issues related to women who have served in the military and the challenges some face returning to civilian life

“When Women Return from War – The Long Road Home,” a leadership conference sponsored by the New England Center for Homeless Veterans (NECHV), is a discussion of issues related to women who have served in the military and the challenges some face returning to civilian life.

The presentations will include a keynote address on women in the military that outlines changing demographics, how female roles in the military have recently evolved, differences in male and female military experience and the transition out of military to civilian life.

Who: Allison Hickey, Under Secretary for Benefits, Department of Veteran Affairs, will be the Moderator for the Conference, and Captain (Sel) Shannon J.

Johnson Ph.D., US Navy, is the Keynote Speaker.

Panelists include:

-Colonel (Ret) Elspeth Cameron Ritchie, MD, MPH, US Army;
-Karen A.

Guthrie, LICSW, Senior Consultant, PTSD Consultation Program, U.

S.

Department of Veterans Affairs;
-Kristine DiNardo MEd, LMHC, Vice President, Clinical Services, New England Center for Homeless Veterans;
-Barbara A.

Barnes, Veteran, United States Air Force and Peer Specialist, New England Center for Homeless Veterans.

Why: As more women serve in the military to defend this nation and our freedoms, the number of female Veterans continues to grow.

Female Veterans represent the only sub-population of Veterans in this country that is increasing in numbers; and it is growing substantially.

The population of female Veterans in the United States has more than doubled, from approximately four percent of all Veterans in 1990, to more than eight percent, or almost two million today.

The number of women Veterans will continue to increase, and it is vitally important that their needs be met; especially the needs of female Veterans who encounter significant personal challenges following their service.

Tickets: Tickets are $50 each.
