Celebrate USS Constitution Museum’s 40th anniversary with a scavenger hunt, sailor hat making, temporary tattoos, and birthday cake!

View USS Constitution Museum’s latest exhibit, “Forest to Frigate”.

President George Washington had a decision to make – how should the United States protect Americans at sea now that we were free from British reign?

From this decision was born the US Navy and USS Constitution.

Enter the 1790s and follow the story from the forest in which “Old Ironsides’” timbers grew to her launch as a fully formed frigate.
Decide for yourself what kind of ship to build, meet men like Paul Revere who labored to bring her to life, and test your shipyard skills in the Museum’s newest hands-on exhibit.

Come explore the evidence and see how the young nation launched a legend.

Learn about the War of 1812 from the view point of 19th century U.S. Marines.

Visit their encampment and experience a musket firing demonstration, ask USS Constitution's naval surgeon about his treatments for being 'under the weather', and learn about matron life from the Marines wives.

Also celebrate Guerriere Day, the 204th anniversary of USS Constitution’s victory over HMS Guerriere, the first of five British warships “Old Ironsides” would capture or destroy during the War of 1812.

Furthermore, join Margherita Desy, historian with the Naval History & Heritage Command Detachment Boston/USS Constitution, for a 30-minute discussion of the current 3-year dry docking and restoration of “Old Ironsides”.

Get a peek from the head of the dry dock at the work underway to preserve the U.S.

Navy’s oldest commissioned warship and learn about the Charlestown Navy Yard’s 1833 Dry Dock, an engineering marvel of its day.

Meet in the USS Constitution Museum lobby.
