The community is invited to a free lecture, “Baseball in Haverhill in the 19th Century,” at the Buttonwoods Museum, 240 Water St., Haverhill, Mass., at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2018.

The event is free and there is some parking onsite.

Base ball, two words in the 19th century, has been played in the United States since before the Civil War.

Haverhill proudly fielded multiple teams during the 19th century.

Baseball historian Brian Sheehy will trace the development of baseball in the 19th century through the lens of Haverhill’s teams.
