Linked to the rapid decline of African elephants and rhinos in the wild, African vultures have too, undergone a huge decline in recent decades.

Hear about the vital roles vultures play in the ecosystem as a top predator and discover what is behind the global vulture crisis.

Learn what conservationists and zoos around the world are doing about it and how you can help.

The Africa Programs for the Peregrine Fund, is a non-profit organization based in Boise, Idaho that is dedicated to conserving birds of prey worldwide.

Based in Kenya, Dr. Ogada is a leading expert on African vultures and is the Africa Region Co-chair of the IUCN Vulture Specialist Group.

Zoo New England has supported the Peregrine Fund through our Quarters for Conservation program.

Franklin Park Zoo is also home to a Ruppell’s Griffon vulture, which are also an AZA SAFE (Association of Zoos and Aquariums Saving Animals From Extinction) species.

Through SAFE, AZA accredited zoos and aquariums harness their collected resources, focus on specific endangered species and save them from extinction by restoring heathy populations in the wild, a program that protects threatened animals through education, scientific research, field work, public awareness, and action.

This talk will take place in the Children’s’ Zoo Meeting Barn and is included with Franklin Park Zoo admission.
