On Monday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. St. Matthew’s is hosting an interfaith dinner and program in cooperation with Congregation Beth Elohim’s High Holidays services for Rosh Hashanah.

Rosh Hashanah, often called the “Jewish New Year,” is a 10-day period of introspection and repentance that culminates in Yom Kippur, also known as the Day of Atonement.

As we prepare to enter the future we examine ourselves and our faithfulness to God and the way God invites us to live.

We confront our sin, and we repent—we “repoint” ourselves in a new direction.

Among our sins is the sin of racism.

Racism works on many levels: the inherent biases based on skin color that are baked into the American consciousness; the systemic ways that bias shapes our national policies, social interactions and personal beliefs and behaviors; and the ways we accommodate and benefit from systems that favor us at others’ expense.

The evening program is titled “Chesbon haNafesh: An Interfaith Anti-Racism Self-Assessment.”

This program offers us who are white the chance to assess how we bear our whiteness in the world.

It is being organized by Pastor Steve, Rabbi Mike Rothbaum, Rev.

Amy Lunde-Whitler at South Acton UCC, Rev.

Cindy Worthington-Berry at Boxborough UCC, and Rev.

Laura Harris-Adam at West Acton Baptist Church.

To respect the dietary needs of our brothers and sisters, we are requesting that you bring vegetarian food.

Please sign up on the church's website.
