The Painting the Town exhibit at the Old Schwamb Mill, on display through May 31, highlights diverse public art projects installed around Arlington as part of the 250th commemoration of the American Revolution.

On May 27, from 7 pm to 8:30 pm, join contributing artists for a discussion of the challenges, complexities and rewards of developing public artworks for Arlington 250.

- Liz Shepherd will discuss the bold silkscreen designs she and collaborator Suzanne Moseley developed for lightpole banners that march down Mass Avenue, bringing a sense of pageantry and plant life to Arlington Center.

- Molly Edwards, plant biologist and science communicator, will talk about her work producing People, Plants & Revolution, a complementary audio tour which delves into the ways that the landscape of colonial Arlington was reshaped by the farms, orchards, and kitchen gardens of English settlers.

- Nilou Moochhala will share the process behind Then & Now, her Arlington timeline project, celebrating 25 historic events selected to represent the evolution of her hometown, paired with contemporary stories related by theme.

- Chris Frost will discuss his sculptural pedestal project, a tribute to the farmers, carpenters, and other ordinary people of Menotomy who were swept up in the violence of the Revolution during the British retreat through Menotomy.

- Cecily Miller, ArtsArlington Curator, and Laurie Bogden, ArtsArlington Commissioner, will talk about the challenges and rewards of interpreting complex history through public art.

Sponsored by the Arlington Commission for Arts and Culture.
