Thrilling holiday music, delicious homemade baked good, free refreshments, free admission for children under 12, and a special appearance by the First Baptist Church of Wakefield’s Handbell Choir add up to an afternoon of fun and good cheer at the Middlesex Concert Band’s Carols & Cookies holiday concert and bake sale.

Music Director Mark E. Olson has put together a program that blends old favorites like Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride” and Ralph Vaughan Williams’s setting of “Greensleeves” with new pieces like the Mannheim Steamroller’s “Auld Lang Syne” and a jazz arrangement of popular Christmas tunes by Sammy Nestico in “A Fireside Christmas.”

Other highlights of the program include an inventive new arrangement by David Lovrien of well-known carols in “Minor Alterations: Christmas Through the Looking Glass,” a handbell choir performance, and a Christmas-in-the-Round segment that will have the musicians encircling the audience for a special serenade by each instrument section.

Each audience member will receive a treat bag with an assortment of holiday cookies and candies and may enjoy a variety of complimentary hot and cold beverages.

In addition to the musical entertainment, the afternoon will also feature an extensive selection of homemade packaged baked goods for sale and a raffle of a cookie jar filled to the brim with samples from the bake sale.

14, 2014 at the Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational Technical School (the Voke), 100 Hemlock Rd., Wakefield, MA.

Doors will open at 2:00 p.m.; come early for the best selections at the bake sale.
