An internationally-recognized performer, Mari is equally at home in a wide variety of musical traditions, including Celtic, Canadian, and American fiddling, jazz, tango, klezmer, folk, and more.

She has been featured at Celtic Highland Games, Argentine tango festivals, folk festivals, jazz concert series, and world-famous classical concert venues including Carnegie Hall.

Mari has appeared with such diverse artists as Irish fiddle champion Liz Carroll, Americana master Mark O’Connor, and jazzman Willie Ruff.

Her music has been heard on the BBC Radio Scotland’s “Take the Floor”, Fox and CBS morning news, NPR’s “Here and Now,” and WGBH Radio’s “A Celtic Sojourn”.

An enthusiastic collector of passport stamps, Mari has played concerts in Brazil, Scotland, Canada, China, Korea, Zimbabwe, Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic, Italy, and France, and she can’t wait for the next stop!

While her solo shows combine selections from different genres and original pieces with diverse stylistic influences, Mari has also proven herself a master of many distinctive musical traditions in their pure form.

She is the reigning Glenfiddich Scottish Fiddle Champion and Canadian Maritime Fiddle Champion, the 2013 U.S.

National Scottish Fiddle Champion, the 2012 Canadian Maritime Fiddle Champion, the 2011 Canadian Open Novelty Champion, a 1st prize winner at the 2010 American Protégé International Piano and Strings Competition, and a 2-time winner at the ASTA (American String Teachers Association) Alternative Styles Awards.

Mari’s recent performing career includes acclaimed performances at the Austin Celtic Festival (Austin, TX), the Yachats Celtic Festival (Yachats, OR), the Saltwater Celtic Festival (Portland, ME), the San Diego Folk Heritage Society (San Diego, CA), The Burren Backroom Series with Brian O’Donovan (Boston, MA), the International Festival del Accordion (Belo Horizonte, Brazil), Club Passim (Boston, MA), and more.

She has been featured as a concert soloist with many New England orchestras including the New England String Ensemble and the Boston Virtuosi.

No matter how big or small the show, Mari’s passion for sharing diverse music and the stories behind it continues to inspire every audience she connects with.

BAND BIOS:

Guitarist JOSEPH CARMICHAEL has spent the past several years collecting an impressive resume in the world of traditional music.

In demand accompanist in a wide array of Celtic and folk styles, he has performed with such musicians as Brendan Power, Cormac De Barra, Buddy Connolly, Oisín MacDiarmada, James Kelly and Liz Carroll.

Joseph's primary project, folk trio Flashpoint, has recently recorded their second album, 'A Timely Misadventure,” and has opened for bands such as FullSet and the legendary Solas.

Joseph is also a regular member with singer/songwriter, Ashley Davis, and has toured with internationally acclaimed musicians, Hanz Araki and Colleen Raney, as well as a special performance in Cavan with Gregory and Alex Grene of the Prodigals, as part of The Gathering in 2013.

Most recently, he toured the Mid West with Flashpoint, and released a new album with his Irish duo, Óga.

Originally from the greater Detroit area, bassist JOE MAGAR has spent the past ten years on the East Coast as an active orchestral and chamber musician.

He received his bachelors of music from the University of Michigan and his masters degree and artist diploma from Yale University.

In addition to his ensemble work, Joe performs in a wide variety of musical styles on both upright and electric bass including jazz, rock, and folk music.

He is an enthusiastic performer of new music in many genres, and has appeared on such series as the Incubated Arts Series, Bard's Summerscape, the American Composers Orchestra's Composers Out Front series, and the Evolution Contemporary Music Series.

Joe is a member of the Quodlibet Ensemble, a New York-based chamber orchestra whose mission is to inspire audiences by exploring the endless possibilities of an abundant musical spectrum.

The group just released it's debut recording of Correlli concertos.

This is the second many concerts at this new venue - the announcement of a full season of concerts in the cafe will be made soon.

As we did at our Loring-Greenough concert series, admission will be by free-will donation ($18, seniors and students $15).

The cafe serves soup, sandwiches, desserts, coffee, tea beer and wine.

Free parking (44 spaces) in the back lot and on street.
MBTA: Arts at the Armory is approximately a 15 minute walk from Davis Square which is on the MBTA Red Line.

You can also find us by using either the MBTA RT 88 and RT 90 bus that can be caught either at Lechmere (Green Line) or Davis Square (Red Line).
